The R.W. Norton Art Gallery hosts numerous exhibitions and events throughout the year.
We are proud to host both family-friendly community events and events for the 21-and-older crowd.
The R.W. Norton Art Gallery is thrilled to announce our fall exhibition, The Artist: A Singing-and-Painting Experience by Bridget and Amanda Winder. In the words of Bridget and Amanda Winder: The Artist is an interactive “singing-and-painting” experience that encompasses the journey of The Artist. Each painting, song, and process video depicts the internal highs and lows The Artist experiences as she vulnerably expresses and embraces the darkness within, in a quest to gain freedom, healing, and growth in her life.
Through her willingness and courage to embrace the fragility of the physical realm, she is able to conquer the warfare brewing inside of her. Which allows her to lean deeply into the strength, identity, and confidence of the spirit realm. That strength, identity, and confidence gives The Artist the ability to transcend into higher versions of herself.
The QR codes provided for each of the large paintings in The Artist will enhance your exhibition experience and can be scanned using a mobile phone or other optical device. Please use your headphones to enjoy the music that has been created to accompany the works of art.
Here are some steps for scanning a QR code using a smartphone:
1. Open the camera app
2. Point the camera at the QR code to get a full view
3. Wait for the camera to recognize the code
4. An icon or web address should appear on the screen near the code
5. The phone's web browser should automatically open and take the user to the associated website
The exhibition will be on display 26 September - 24 November 2024.
Art and music have had a long and compelling relationship. Baroque refers equally to the paintings of Caravaggio and the symphonies of Bach, while the impressionism of Monet’s images of Giverny is echoed by the impressionism of musical works like Debussy’s Clair de Lune. On a more personal level, who among us hasn’t accessed an internal soundtrack when walking through an art museum, or been irrepressibly reminded of a particular artwork when listening to a certain song. With that idea in mind, we asked a selection of local musicians, artists, and community members to choose a work in the Norton’s permanent collection and pair it with a song or other musical piece that he or she felt best reflected the art. This exhibition is the result. As you view the art, you can access the accompanying playlist either through scanning the QR code, or with the steps outlined in our brochure. Enjoy! We did.

This spring, the Norton welcomes Women in Print, our latest Sisters in Art exhibition, to our permanent Women’s Gallery. This exhibition offers a delightful look at a baker’s dozen of women artists whose medium of choice is printmaking. It includes the rich and varied works of artists such as Kyra Markham, Christis Tirado, Inga Britta Mills, Karen Whitman, Deborah Maris Lader, Dame Laura Knight, Peggy Bacon, and Clare Leighton.
These women have employed printmaking to address topics as diverse as personal identity, social issues, and even the creative process itself. Among the works of art selected for this exhibition are a number of new additions to our permanent collection featured here for the first time.
